His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali and First Lady Arya Ali hosted a farewell dinner for the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, H.E. Guo Haiyan, at the State House tonight.
 
In brief remarks, President Ali applauded Ambassador Haiyan for her “extraordinary work” in Guyana.
“We don’t see this as farewell, we see this as a dinner for a family member who is going to return.”
 
The President said that Guyana and China have had the most expansive collaboration in every aspect of national life under Haiyan's tenure.
“I want to say how very proud you should be as Ambassador of China to Guyana…you have done extraordinary work for China here in Guyana.”
 
Senior Minister within the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance and Public Service, the Honourable Ashni Singh; Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd; other cabinet members, government officials and members of the private sector were also part of the dinner.
