His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali said that 6,000 new acres of coconut plantation have been added to the agriculture productivity of Region Two.
This, the Head of State said, has been as a result of strategic investment by his Government to increase and enhance productivity across the region. The bottling of coconut water, he added, has also exponentially increased.
The President highlighted the development while addressing residents at the Evergreen/Paradise Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) in Dartmouth on the Essequibo Coast on Thursday.
“Today I am here, not to remind you of all that we’ve done, but I am here as part of our Government’s philosophy of continuous engagement. To continue the listening process, to hear from you on how this development is impacting your community and what are the things we can look at.”
The President also noted that in Dartmouth alone, over $400m has been invested in the rehabilitation of roads in the community, and over $64m has been invested in drainage and irrigation.
After addressing the residents, the President also allowed them to ask questions and suggest recommendations for the further development of their communities.
President Ali and a team of Cabinet Ministers visited the community during their one-day outreach to Region Two.
