His Excellency President Dr Irfaan Ali held a social for senior citizens of Region Three at his private residence in Leonora, West Coast Demerara.

During today's social, President Ali lauded the efforts of the seniors, whom he said worked hard to take care of their families during several trying times in the country’s history. He spoke of their strength, resolution, and determination. “You never gave up, you persevered… and you invested in your children. Today, many of you have lived to see your children or grandchildren becoming lawyers, doctors, engineers, technicians, etc. You must see that as part of your victory; you must see that as part of your success because it was your hard work that stimulated that.”

The President reassured that the sacrifices made by seniors in Guyana will not be forgotten. “That is why we recognise you; that is why every year we want to be here with you.

The People’s Progressive Party Civic Government cares about every single segment of our country and our population. Today, I can say that every single commitment we made in our manifesto, we have been able to fulfil for you.”

He spoke of the increase in old age pensions, other financial support, and advancements in healthcare, including the Cabinet’s no objection to constructing a new hospital in West Demerara.
The President also distributed hundreds of hampers to those gathered.
